Kalshi's US traffic grew 1,500% amid increasing regulatory pressure

Major prediction markets platform Kalshi has seen a sharp increase in traffic from the US over the past year, highlighting its rapid expansion amid regulatory and court scrutiny of its growing event contracts business.

According to Similarweb traffic estimates reviewed by Cointelegraph on Friday, Kalshi received 15.4 million visits from the US in July—a roughly 1,520% increase from just under 1 million in August 2025.

US traffic accounted for nearly 80% of Kalshi's visits in July, compared to 72.8% in August 2025, indicating that its growth remains heavily concentrated in the US.

This surge comes amid mounting legal challenges for Kalshi over whether its sports contracts are subject to federal oversight or state gambling laws; New Jersey has taken the dispute to the US Supreme Court.

Trading Volume Outpaces Traffic Growth

Kalshi's surge in web traffic has been accompanied by an even faster increase in trading activity as prediction markets have expanded rapidly over the past year.

In August, Kalshi recorded approximately $40 billion in notional monthly trading volume, up from $874 million a year earlier—an increase of approximately 4,500%, according to the Dune Analytics prediction markets dashboard.

Across the prediction markets industry, monthly notional volume grew from approximately $2 billion in the same period to $50.7 billion, with Kalshi accounting for nearly 79% of the latter figure.

On Thursday, Barron's reported that sports contracts accounted for 83% of Kalshi's trading volume in July.

Kalshi is attracting increasing traffic from restricted jurisdictions.

In July, Kalshi's website received approximately 450,000 visits from Canada, up from approximately 50,000 in August 2025, while traffic from the UK increased from 31,000 to 296,000.

Canada and the UK are among the jurisdictions where Kalshi's user agreement currently prohibits users from directly accessing or trading on the Kalshi platform. In June, Kalshi partnered with Canadian financial services company Wealthsimple to provide access to nearly 4,000 eligible Kalshi contracts through a separate app.

From August 2025 to July 2026, Canada's share of Kalshi traffic decreased from 3.8% to 2.3%, and the UK's share decreased from 2.4% to 1.5%, although the number of visits from both countries increased.
